This Easter weekend Birdsong became aware of a story that might be of interest to
students of immigration law and evidence law. The story comes out of Queens, New York and may hold object lessons for federal immigration officers and immigrants seeking to obtain their gren cards. The story involves a immigratrion officer who was recorded demanding sex from a young Columbian woman in exchange for him awarding her a green card.

Birdsong never visited any of Jude’s Barbershops in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area but wished that he had the opportunity before police busted the owner this past week. Thomas Martin the owner of the eleven Judes’ Barbershops will continue to offer haricus and shaves to customers but he can no longer provide his customers free beer!

Birdsong is not an oracle. Yet, Birdsong is always asked difficult questions.
This week people have been asking Birdsong: “Are Barack Obama’s chances to become President of the U.S. doomed because of his association with his allegedly fiery Pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.”
Snippets of Wright’s sermons where he has condemned America for its racism and militarism have floated around the internet for several months. This past week those snippets have been the fodder of cable TV news and have raised the specter that Obama is not a loyal American and perhaps a danger to the U.S. if he were to become President.

THE LAW IS AN ASS
By Birdsong 3/30/08
Many years ago Birdsong read a novel by Charles Dickens. Birdsong does not remember which Dickens’ novel, however he does remember a colloquy between two of the characters. The first character explains the workings of a new British law to the second character. Upon hearing of the new law the second character responds incredulously: “Sir, if that is the law, then the law is an ass! Since that time Birdsong has often read of new laws or legal rulings that reminds him that the Dickens character was correct in describing the “law as an ass.” Here is the latest case on point.
