As usual, Birdsong is sitting on the sidelines of this year’s political race for President reading commentary and looking at the polls by various organizations. Over the past weekend, the last weekend of July, 2008, the Gallup poll had 49% of polled Americans saying they would vote for Obama for president, 41 % would vote for McCain. A New York Post poll had it dead even, 41% for Obama and 41 % for McCain. Polling by the Rasmussen organization revealed 45% for Obama and 41% for McCain.
The commentator Robert Novak opines that since “Obama is the most spectacular campaigner of his generation…it is a mystery that he lingers below the 50% mark of polled Americans who would vote for him.”
No mystery to Birdsong.

Birdsong presents you more absolutely true, but weird, criminal law stories:
Saratoga Springs, NY: Calvin Morett, a 19 year old high school student was cited for disorderly conduct. His conduct? He showed up at his high school graduation dressed as a 6 foot penis. Officials report that Morett went to court where he stood erect, manned up and pleaded guilty to the charge. For his punishment he was ordered to write a letter of apology to his school.

Birdsong was outraged to learn, first from a report on the Tom Joyner Morning Show on July 23, 2008, that the Chinese government through its uniformed Public Security Bureau has told bar owners to not sell alcohol to black people or Mongolians during the Beijing’s Olympics!
Birdsong finds it far fetched to believe that there are that many black people in Beijing who might get liquored up and possibly cause trouble for the Olympics. Birdsong has no experience with Mongolians and does not know whether they are prone to mischief after drinking.
What Birdsong does know is that this sounds like good old fashioned bigotry

Cybercops in Florida are surfing the web trying to catch predators, prostitutes and pranksters. Orlando Sentinel reporters Amy Edward and Walter Pacheco recently recounted a few instances of how law enforcement has used the Internet this year in recent criminal cases:
January 2008: Two Miami-Dade County gang members were arrested after investigators discovered a video of the men on YouTube brandishing a shotgun, assault rifle,
