GEORGIA: While some states are pushing to tighten gun control laws after the Connecticut school massacre, lawmakers in gun-friendly Georgia want to ease rules preventing some mentally ill people from getting licenses. Legislators recently voted 117 to 56 to allow people who have voluntarily sought inpatient treatment for mental illness or substance abuse to get licenses. Georgia may also amend its laws to allow people to carry guns in churches and bars.

ARKANSAS: A drunken driver tried to make a getaway after crashing her car into a mobile home. She tried to get away by riding off on an electric toy truck Jamie Craft, 29, didn’t get far in the Fischer-Price Power Wheels vehicle, which belonged to a child who lived in the mobile home. The child’s father grabbed Craft and pulled her off the wheels.

OHIO: An Ohio schoolteacher maintains her bosses discriminated against her – because she has a fear of children. Maria Waltherr-Willard, 61, asked not to have to educate young children, but was transferred from a high school to a junior high anyway. The veteran French and Spanish teacher sued the district after she was moved.

MICHIGAN: A woman is wanted for holding up a bank near Detroit by threatening to explode a bomb she said was in her bag. After the woman grabbed the cash, she fled and left the bag behind. Police X-rayed the bag and found no bomb – only cans of tomato sauce.
